Frequently Asked Questions and Other Info
The Golden Retriever is a large beautiful bundle of energy. They mature slowly, often not until 2 years of age (or older), and they require exercise, leadership, and lots of mental stimulation in the form of training to keep them from turning their intelligence into destructive habits. As a general rule they can weigh anywhere from 50 to 85 pounds be 20 to 25 inches tall and should live to be around 10 - 14 years old. They are known for their rich golden color that can range from a light gold (almost cream) to a deep copper gold. They have been used for hunting, assisting the handicapped, leading the blind and of course being a loyal and devout family dog. Because they have been bred to work with humans as both hunter and helper they require a high amount of human interaction and are not suited for career families. They need to be with their human and they crave human direction, praise, and companionship.
Golden Retrievers are:
1. Large dogs. They can knock you over, and unless you train them, they will knock you over.
2. They shed a lot. Not for folks with allergies.
3. They are so smart that if you don't start training them early, they will have you trained before you know it.
4. They are not usually good watch dogs.

Cancer: According to Dr. George C Pack, MD, a cancer specialist at Cornell medical School, "Almost everyone has cancer cells present at times in our bodies. If our immune system is working properly, these cells are killed or reabsorbed by our defense system before they begin to grow and threaten our health. The only real defense against cancer is the immune system." Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are your dogs registered? A. Yes, all my dogs are AKC registered. All of my puppies go to their new homes with AKC paper work. If you want your puppy to be registered in your name, you must fill out the paper work I give you when you pick up your puppy and mail it to the AKC. Q. Do you give full or limited registration? A. I will give both full & limited registration depending on the situation. I reserve the right I to limit the registration of any dog or puppy I sell at my discretion. If you get a puppy from me with limited registration we can change it to full later. http://www.akc.org/reg/limitedreg.cfm Q. When can I bring my puppy home? A. The puppies can go to their new homes at 8 weeks old. Q. How can I get on the waiting list? What is a deposit? A. The “waiting list” is the list that you get on BEFORE puppies are born. To get on the waiting list you simply contact me and let me know if you want male or female, and give me your name, address, email, and phone number. I will then put you on the list and notify you when my next litter is due to be born. After puppies are born, if you still want one, I require a deposit to hold back a puppy for you. A deposit is part of the overall price of the puppy and secures your pick of the litter. I do NOT accept deposits until after puppies are born, and I do NOT require full payment until you come to pick up the puppy at 8 weeks old . (Once the litter is 4 weeks old and had their first set of shots and vet appointment, deposits are nonrefundable.) Note: I put much time and effort into planning a litter - and into choosing the right homes for the puppies. Please make sure your decision to get a Golden Retriever puppy from me (or any other breeder) is well thought out before you send a deposit. Q. What is "pick of the litter"? A. Puppies are picked by their owners in the order I receive deposits. The first person to send me a deposit gets to pick the first puppy. The second depositor gets to pick the second puppy and so on. It keeps things fair and orderly for both buyer and seller. Q. How big will the puppies get? A. I do not guarantee exact weight and size. Dogs are like humans and can pull their genetics from way back. ---Golden Retrievers should be between 55-75 pounds. No breeder can guarantee size, color, or champion ability of their puppies. --AKC - Males 23-24 inches in height at withers; females 21½-22½ inches. Dogs up to one inch above or below standard size should be proportionately penalized. Deviation in height of more than one inch from the standard shall disqualify. Length from breastbone to point of buttocks slightly greater than height at withers in ratio of 12:11. Weight for dogs 65-75 pounds; bitches 55-65 pounds. I only breed dogs that meet the AKC breed standards! Q. Can I come by and see the puppies? A. Answer used to be yes but with COVID19 now spreading in humans and recent outbreaks of parvo in the puppy world, I don't allow visitors to just come see the puppies to keep the puppies safe. For the safety of the puppies I don’t allow visitors but will allow buyers to visit after they have had their first set of shots around 6 weeks old. Q. How many litters do you breed a year? A. I only have 1-2 litters a year. Q. Do you ship? A. Yes, but weather sometimes causes delays. Since COVID19, it is really hard to ship a puppy. Buyer pays for all shipping costs. Q. Can Golden Retrievers be sporting dogs? A. Golden Retrievers ARE sporting dogs. They can be taught to retrieve waterfowl, pheasant, geese, and other upland game. They can also be used as therapy dogs, bomb detection, cadaver dogs, search and rescue, and seeing eye dogs for the visually impaired. The Golden Retriever breed is very versatile. They are perhaps best known for their loving and gentle nature. They are outstanding family dogs. --My dogs have hunting, show, and obedience lines. Q. Do you offer stud service? A. I DO NOT own Merlin or Hero but they are available to stud. They can breed to English or American style Golden Retrievers. Requirements to breed your female to Merlin or Hero: 1. A Recent Negative Brucellosis & Aerobic Test (within 2 weeks). Please provide paperwork from a licensed Veterinarian. Note: This test may take a few days for results to come back so test at first sign of heat (or sooner). 2. Must be current on rabies and annual booster vaccination. 3. Female must be at least 2 years old and have all health testing done. I DO NOT own Merlin or Hero. Please contact http://goldenretrieverstreet.weebly.com for more information. |
